Talon was truly an outstanding dog.  He earned 16 Derby points and Qualified All-Age in Field Trials.  He earned two AKC Master Hunter passes at the first Hunt Test he was entered in and went on to earn his Master Hunter title.  He also earned his UKC Hunting Retriever Champion.

Talon was from our exceptional breeding between TJ our Master Hunter (see pedigree above) and Hunters Marsh Jet Tea, JH, (see pedigree below).   Jet was out of FC-AFC Island Lakes Beau Jet x Hunters Marsh Special Tea, MH.  While all of the Labrador Retrievers at our kennel have AKC Master Hunting titles and UKC Hunting Retriever Champion titles, there was one exception, Jet, who has only her JH title due to an injury to her leg that she received after obtaining this title.  This injury prevented Jet from obtaining an HRCH title in front and MH title in back of her name.  What Jet lacks for in titles, she makes up for in her ability to produce outstanding dogs that receive her strengths--marking, water, trainability, excellent hips, and beautiful heads.  Jet gives her puppies the ability do do what an injury kept her from doing.   This is evident every time one of Jet's pups works as a hunting dog at a hunt test or field trial and this is especially evident in Talon.  Jet  and TJ are the sire and dam of:

  • 12 Master Hunters
  • 3 Hunter Retriever Champions
  • 2 dogs on the National Derby list with Derby wins
  • 5 dogs what are qualified All-Age with Qualifying wins
  • Dogs that have completed the Master National
  • Plus many great hunting dogs

Talon's grandmother, Tea, our Master Hunter, was sister to six Field Champions; and at the age of 12 she is still winning 190 dog competitive pheasant hunts.

Talon was brother to 12 Master Hunters, 3 Hunting Retriever Champions and Sempahores Living After Dark (16 Derby points, Qualifying 3rd) and Wrights Ground Digger (9 Derby points, back-to-back Qualifying wins.

Talon like his sire and dam produced big, good looking labs that excel as both up-land and waterfowl hunting dogs--the old fashioned classic lab that lies next to your chair but is always ready to go hunting. He was from sound lines that are free of genetic problems. Talon had an explosive water entry and is a pin-point marker. He ran beautiful blinds. He was not only good looking but was also a fine hunting dog and great family dog.

JASMINE3.jpg (2915 bytes)
Jasmine - Finalist & Qualified at 1996 Master National

Jasmine, did it all-- she was an exceptional hunting dog.  Jasmine was out of FC-AFC Skywatch Radar x Hunters Marsh Special Tea, MH.  In September 1996, she was one of 241 dogs that started the 1996 Master National.  At the end of the first land series, 100 dogs were not invited back to the second series.  Five days of intensive land and water testing resulted in 75 dogs completing the Master National. The three judges each tallied their results, judging the working ability of each dog on training, control, steadiness, honoring, marking ability on land and water marks, and blinds on land and water. Fifty-four dogs were awarded the coveted pewter plate and Master National qualifying ribbon for exceptional work.  Not only did Jasmine finish and qualify at this National, she did it with great marking ability, and did not handle on any of the land or water marks; she had one whistle on each of her land and water blinds.  As one of the judges said, "She is everything anyone could ever want in a female."

Jasmine was sister to 5 Master Hunters and one qualified all-age dog.  Jasmine was the dam of Semaphores Tool Time, who was on the National Derby list with 16 Derby points. He is also qualified All-Age at two years of age.  Jasmine was bred to Chavez.  The first breeding produced some mighty special pups. These pups are wonderful markers, have great water entries, were easy to train and eager to please. One of the pups from the first breeding had 6 ribbons in licensed UKC and AKC hunt test before she was 7 months old.

Jasmine will be sadly missed!

Tia

Mark Mitchell & Tia

  • Master Hunter title
  • HRCH title
  • Black, 74 lbs.
  • OFA good - eyes clear
  • AKC/UKC registered

Tia, our special one the third generation of breeding that started our line. Her mom,J et,  at 13 ½ is still alive and  very active.  Tia  won your heart the minute you met her.  All she had to do was come over to you and wait to be petted and look up at you with those big brown eyes. She loved everyone.  She earned her AKC Master title with no problem, nd went on to become a UKC Hunting Retriever Champion.  She produced dogs that could and did do it all.   I am so sorry that I don’t have a direct off spring of hers to carry her bloodlines.  If I could have anything, I would want another dog just like her.  I have kept a yellow male, her grandson, out of her son, Hunters Marsh Loose Change.  He, like his mother, is a Master Hunter.  Maybe this grandson of hers will carry her genes and she can live on through him. She is gone but will never be forgotten.

Diesel -- there will never be another one like him.  A wonderful pedigree, both parents Field Champions.  Diesel started out as a field trial dog and did darn well.  He earned 26 licensed derby points, made the top derby list, and was qualified all age. He had never been trained for hunt test, but you would not have known it. He earned his AKC  Master Hunter title in 6 straight passes, always getting get comments from the judges about the great job he did.  He earned his UKC Hunting Retriever Champion title again in straight passes..  He gave us so much happiness. He qualified for the Master National and went to Vermont to run it and he was awesome.  He got the coveted ribbon.   Diesel also excelled as a wonderful hunting dog.  Many of the people who came in to learn how to handle dogs were thrilled at how good of a handler they were when they ran Diesel.   We had lots of people who wanted to own a dog just like him; but they only made one of him.  Diesel will be greatly missed not only by us at Hunters Marsh, but by many people who knew how special he was.

    title in 6 straight passes
  • Earned her UKC Hunting Retriever Championship
    in straight passes
  • Black, 65 lbs.
  • OFA good - eyes clear

Co-owned with Barbara Vedder, Royal Oak, MI

Merry is out of FC-AFC Donnybrooks Rocky  Road x Hunters Marsh Special Tea, MH.   Merry is a very impressive dog.  She didn't just get titles but got them with incredible style.  At each test, she was always the youngest dog entered by at least 6 months.  She passed tests where only 4 dogs out of the 35 that were entered finished.  She received high scores from the judges at each test she ran.  They were truly impressed with her great water entry and her ability to know exactly where each bird went down.  She did tough land and water blinds like she was a much older dog instead of a dog that had not yet turned two.

If you are looking for a very special pup loaded with talent, you need a pup out of Merry.  Merry's dam, who is 10 1/2 years old, is still hunting upland game and ducks and geese.  Merry is sister to Blackskys Rebellious Warrior who has 23 Derby points, and 3 Qualifying wins.   Merry is a sister to GG and their pedigree is below.
